CBS新聞引述國防部官員消息報導，2艘美國海軍驅逐艦在伊朗發動猛烈攻擊之際，成功通過荷莫茲海峽進入波斯灣。

國防部官員表示，美國海軍驅逐艦特魯斯頓號（USS Truxtun）及麥森號（USS Mason）在通過荷莫茲海峽的過程中，遭伊朗動用小型快艇、飛彈及無人機一連串協同攻擊。官員形容，整個過程是持續性猛烈砲擊。

面對如此強度的攻勢，兩艘驅逐艦在阿帕契直升機及其他飛機的空中支援下，防禦措施成功攔截或嚇阻每一波來襲的威脅，伊朗發射的所有飛彈與無人機，均未能擊中任何一艘艦艇。

部署至中東的美國軍艦及飛機正在執行對伊朗海上封鎖，同時推進「自由計畫」（Project Freedom），以支持荷莫茲海峽的商業航運自由通行。根據美軍中央司令部發布的最新照片，可見在阿拉伯海航行的「的黎波里號」（USS Tripoli）兩棲突擊艦上，有一名軍人在飛行控制塔台監督飛行作業。
